Lilacs I was hungry, had to pee, from too much caffeine, trying to stay awake during the sermon, about treasure hidden in a field; my arms blossomed goosebumps, reacting to the sanctuary AC. We stepped outside, heat mirages smeared the blacktop, along with the shoes of a line of zombie parishioners.
I love this line because the smell of lilacs is so delicate and fleeting, they immediately give a sense of longing… like you can’t get enough or quite reach them.
I did manage to save the scent this year by doing lilac enfleurage in tallow! Now I’ll think of this line when I smell them.
